Thanks Esther, I am so glad you liked the play. With "Superior Donuts"'s theme of community so generalizable, it is also still particularly resonant for me because it is at its heart a celebration of the complicated, towering, blemished but strong community that is Chicago in the 21st century.

I saw Superior Donuts on Broadway a couple weeks ago and loved it. I think Michael McKean and Jon Michael Hill have better chemistry than anyone I saw on my theater trip, including Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman! It's funny and moving with such memorable characters. Yeah, the scene with the Star Trek costume is hilarious. The scene where Franco pulls his novel out of his backpack and starts quoting Langston Hughes was so poignant. I love the fact that Tracy Letts has created a young black man who's smart, witty, literary, not a stereotype. Sure, it's different than August, which I also loved, but just as good and profound in its own way. If August was about the relations between family members, Superior Donuts is how we interact as a community, as neighbors, as Americans.
