After the last two blog posts, which were intense, critical, personal reflections on important things, I am exhausted! So I thought, I’ll start the weekend off with a smile (or a guffaw), by sharing some of the feedback I’ve received during this official launch week of From the Ledge. I am so excited and gratified that people (well, mostly my friends) are actually reading the site!
My friend Frank in Philadelphia, who I personally think is one of the all-time great communicators (and proves it by running a very successful organizational communications firm), dropped me a warm email with this note: “This is just fabulous. You are such a great writer I was alway waiting for the day when you’d be on the blogging train.” Frank also has me as featured blogger on his personal blog today and says this:
“My friend, Francis, has finally started blogging after years of entertaining hundreds of us with his and Jen’s Oscar predictions. Francis is what Perez Hilton would be if he were clever, witty, and fabulously dressed.”
I’m not really sure what to make of the Perez Hilton reference…I kinda thought I’m more male Joan Didion crossed with Truman Capote wit and fabulousness and Tim Gunn style. I am also probably slightly delusional. Anyway, you can read more of Frank’s blog post and the related comments here. Please don’t forget to add his blog to your Google reader for good-natured, big-hearted, classy writing. I’ll also be linking to both his personal blog and his HR professional blog.
My dear friend and grad school partner-in-crime Ewing, who is living quite the life of an American expatriate in Sydney (yes, I made him watch “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” multiple times as part of his pre-departure cultural immersion training), had this to say:
“Congratulations on your blog launch! I love the name..invokes anticipation, potential energy, fear. Great branding. And i gotta say your content is uber-mod, posh and a bit condescending…perfection in other words!”
Finally, erstwhile mentor and best-boss-in-the-world-ever Ed, who is also living quite the life of a retired HR consultant in California, made me blush with deep pleasure when he said:
“Thanks on behalf of the rest of civilization. We all look forward to reading it.”
Ed, I am sure Charles Darwin will need to make some room on that lifeboat containing civilization’s greatest contributors, for my outsized personality. To see how I stack up against Darwin physically (and to prove the power of the theory of evolution - that orangutans will ultimately morph into Prada hat-wearing and Chinese fan-wielding artsy, stylish creatures) , I have put our pictures side-by-side (with my friend Camela thrown into the mix). By the way, I am sure once Camela sees this post, she’ll be eagerly dusting off that home voodoo-doll-and-pin-needles kit. No one wants a picture of their Ricky Martin-wannabe days published anywhere!

Hi Francis, yep, I went with the contemporary reference knowing that you would put in proper critical and historical perspective. You just crack me up…and look at that smile in your picture. Great stuff.

Thanks Frank! I think my buzzmeter just shot up into the stratosphere by being linked to Perez Hilton! And thanks for the comment on the picture, I call it my post-modern Norma Desmond “Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up” look (in reality, it’s the look that comes about after imbibing too many watered down vodka tonics and seeing too many overweight drag queens in saran wrap and ostrich feathers. Yes, the picture was taken a couple of years ago during the Chicago Gay Pride parade).

Congratulations, Francis. And the picture, what can I say…”bulagang, heto ako” comes to mind! It is about time you made your mark in cyberspace. Keep on writing.
